Tips for Maternity Photos From a Tallahassee Photographer

May 12, 2026

Maternity photos are such a special way to document this new chapter of your love story. The pure love and excitement as you grow your family deserves to be captured. As a Tallahassee photographer, I’m sharing my best tips for planning a maternity session that feels natural, candid, and fun. Check it out below!

Plan Multiple Outfits

Your baby belly looks SO cute! Why not show it off in multiple outfits?! My couples always love having this special season documented, and outfit changes make it even more fun. Kiley and Evan’s outfits were perfect for spring maternity photos. They chose three outfits with different styles: light neutral with a flowy skirt, a bold pop of color, and a classic black on denim look. Each one complemented their personalities in a different light, and they looked absolutely stunning! We paired each outfit with different poses, so they ended up with a variety of options that represent all the emotions of this sweet milestone.

Locations for Photos in Tallahassee

A location makes all the difference when it comes to a photoshoot. As a Tallahassee photographer, I always love an open field, like the J.R. Alford Greenway where we took Kiley and Evan’s maternity photos! There’s just something about the freedom to roam around that makes couples so relaxed. Especially on a beautiful spring day when the weather is gorgeous and there’s the perfect amount of wind.

There are so many great locations to choose from in Tallahassee, so if you want help planning your session, reach out here! It’s helpful to work with a photographer who knows all the best spots and how to make the most of your session!

Maternity Photos Poses That Look Natural and Candid

Posing while pregnant may not feel the most natural, and that’s okay! I’ve got tons of fun pose ideas up my sleeve to help break the ice, and love to help my couples look as natural and relaxed as possible. Something as simple as holding hands while walking and laughing looks perfectly candid! My best tip is to not overthink it. Lean into the location too. At the J.R. Alford Greenway, the wooden fence was great for leaning and sitting on, along with a white blanket against the green grass. Plan Ahead When to Take Your Maternity Photos

While every pregnancy is different, I typically recommend maternity photos around 28-34 weeks. During this time, you’ll likely still be comfortable enough to pose and fully enjoy yourself. Your bump will also be quite bumpin! It’ll be at a stage you’ll for sure want documented. But don’t forget to book your session ahead of time so your Tallahassee photographer (like me!) doesn’t book up. This will also give you plenty of time to plan your dream photos, location, and outfits. By the time your session rolls around, it should feel like a fun date night already planned out for you. All you need to do is show up and be yourselves!
