The Miller family decided to take some documentary-style family pictures on the beach and the photos turned out to be the most precious thing ever. We took these photos on Folly Beach in Charleston, South Carolina and the sunlight was gorgeous. Their session was originally scheduled for sunset and it was super cold and rainy, so we actually rescheduled to sunrise! It was SO pretty and the lighting was gorgeous on the beach. There was no one around an it was so nice.

Beach family pictures will forever hold a special place in my heart, and this gallery just proves why. There were so many candid moments between this sweet family that I was able to capture including all the love, laughs, and sweet moments in-between. They’ll be able to hang these photos on their walls and look back on them forever. As an experienced photographer, I’ve picked up a few tricks for family sessions along the way, SOOOO if you’re nervous about family photos and you have littles, here’s some tips I have!

My Top Tips and Tricks for Beach Family Pictures

1. Bring snacks. I know bribery isn’t wonderful, BUT to make photos easier I always recommend having some kind of treat or snack lined up in case we need to resort to desperate measures lol.

2. Go with the flow. My style of family photography is very candid and documentary. Of course, I will get a few posing at the camera but the majority of photos I capture is interaction. I want to document how you interact with your kids, candid laughs, and authentic moments with your family. Try to be relaxed and not care too much about the camera being there.

3. Take direction from your kids. The easiest way to get overwhelmed with family photos is to try and force poses. If you’re child wants to explore, I am all for it. Let’s go play in the water or walk with them and look for shells! Just embrace the location and walk around and have fun with each other!
