There are so many different South Carolina locations that work great for elopements, but Charleston is definitely one of my favorites! With its sandy beaches, the picturesque landscapes, and the historic architecture, there are plenty of gorgeous settings to choose from. As a Charleston elopement photographer, I’ve picked up tons of tips and tricks along the way to make your elopement as seamless and as fun as possible. Eloping Charleston SC: Where to Elope + What to Do
Eloping in Charleston SC means you automatically open the door for a wide variety of stunning locations. Whether that means you decide to exchange vows on a private beach along the shoreline, or in a charming courtyard at a beautiful downtown inn, Charleston offers the perfect romantic atmosphere for you and your partner to celebrate your love! Here are some of my favorite spots for elopements below.
Downtown Charleston is a great place for exploring. You and your parter can spend time together exploring the battery park, soaking in all the views. You can also walk the cobblestone streets, or even rent the Pink Figgy vintage car! This is a great spot for those wanting to embrace Charleston’s historic charm and gorgeous architecture.
Folly Beach is definitely my favorite spot because there’s so much space to roam around, and you can find a nice spot to adventure! I recommend bringing a cake, champagne, and watching the sunset together. If you’re the type to want your elopement to look like it’s straight out of a movie scene, this is totally the option for you! Any sessions I photograph on Folly Beach always turn out so playful and romantic.
Hampton Park is the perfect spot to plan a picnic, which is definitely another great activity to incorporate into your special day. Just like Folly beach, definitely bring a cake and some champagne to celebrate! Imagine spreading out a cozy blanket, enjoying your favorite food and drinks, and reminiscing over your love story while you’re surrounded by nature. Enjoying a picnic together is the perfect way to add a touch of relaxation amongst what can otherwise feel like a crazy busy day.
How to Elope in Charleston SC
Make sure to check marriage licenses off your to-do list before the big day! In order to obtain one, you can easily apply online. For more information on how to apply, check out this article here! Once you have your license ready to go, you’ll need to find an officiant to perform the ceremony. The officiant can be a religious clergy member or a notary public.
